fall favorites: front porches

Happy first day of fall! There’s nothing quite like the changing seasons, changing colors of the trees, the sweet smells of fall treats, and of course the relief of cooler weather. With fall comes changing out your vibrant colored summer decor for a more muted palette of warm browns, golden yellows, and deep oranges. These signs of fall, while exciting and heart racing, can also be stressful when it comes to decorating your front porch for the season. In this blog we’re going to be listing out what we think are front porch must haves for these cooler weather months, and also including a before and after to show you just how simple some of these swaps can be to give your front porch the perfect fall look.

First of all, nothing says fall quite like a beautiful wreath. Warm colors mixed with beautiful greenery and touches of a neutral like the tan that comes with hay or wheat. Adding this to your front door gives the perfect mix of color and beauty while also adding that finished look to your front porch.

This wreath is a beautiful mix of elements from nature like wheat, leaves, seeds, and feathers. You can find this one here, or another one we love here.

Secondly, you’ll have to have a good place to wipe your feet. During the fall, things get crunchy under your feet and no one wants to track that into their homes. A happy welcome doormat is the easiest solution that also brightens everyone’s day. The natural color of these doormats brings in a neutral to balance out and bring harmony to the other colors that you might have going on, and matches every house! we have to have some layered rugs. Just like how we like to layer up in the fall, so does your front porch! Adding some layering provides visual movement and an easy way to bring in those fall colors that won’t need watering.

These doormats and rugs are our absolute favorite! The welcome mats are a perfect size for any door, and the rugs make the space feel complete. You can find these doormats here, and great layering rugs like this one here!

Third, you guessed that these would be in here somewhere… pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins! You can never have enough pumpkins on your front porch. The more the merrier! Also the more you have, the more your porch will feel complete and visually interesting. Varying the size and color of pumpkins also adds to the polished and completed look of a front porch, and reminds everyone walking by the best part of fall.

We find that some of the best pumpkins with the most variety can be found at your local nursery, ours is Calloway’s, Trader Joe’s, and Market Street!

Fourth thing, a beautiful planter in our eyes is like having the perfect couch for your pillows, or furniture for your other decorations. You can’t have a great front porch for things like flowers and other plants without the perfect planter. You can find some of our favorite planters here, and here!

Fifth, of course you need plants! Some of our favorite fall plants are mums, of course, and we always love a good boxwood. Nothing too crazy or high maintenance. Just bringing in some life to a front porch adds tremendous amounts of interest and a polished look. Our recommendation for finding the perfect plants to polish off your front porch is to go to your local nursery!
