To all of my friends, followers, clients, and supporters - I wanted to let you all know that I have decided to step away from Design Roots. There are so many emotions I’m feeling as I type this letter, but I know this is exactly what I need to do in this season of life. God has been very clear over the past six months that I need to SLOW DOWN and reprioritize things a bit. And with that, it was time to take a step back from Design Roots and focus 100% on my family. Heck, we even moved out to an acre in the trees! (Again, not our intention 6 months ago but if you follow God’s lead, he shows you were you need to be.) Our kids are my number one priority and I only have one shot to be there for them at this stage. This decision does not come lightly and there has been much thought, prayer, and conversation around it. Design Roots has been a big piece of me for 11 years now and will always be a part of my heart and spirit. I am proud of what I have built and accomplished over the years and I am grateful for all of the people I’ve met along the way! So THANK YOU for following along in this journey. You are in good hands with the team here and I’m excited to see what Design Roots does in the years to come!

Wait, you’re not Design Roots anymore?
Yes, I know. This decision was tough, but I strongly feel this chapter needs to be closed. When I came up with this name years ago - I choose it in case I ever wanted to get back in the landscape, outdoor living world. Now that it’s there, it needs to stay there. It’s where it needs to be.
But are you still doing house sketches?
YES! I have so enjoyed sketching those for people over the years, and I will continue to offer that service. (hello, it’s something I can do from home while being under the same roof as my kiddos) ;) If interested, just email me hbbloem@mac.com
What do you plan on doing with ALL that energy you’ve spent running a business?
Well, I’ve had a little test run over the past few months as I took time away to make sure this was the right decision. Then covid happened, and well, this sure is a weird season we’re all in amiright? The past few months has found me focused on my kids, homeschooling like everyone else, and slowly unpacking our new house. We have lots of plans to re-do the landscape here ourselves, and I’ve already been painting patterns on our walls. My time will be spent “feathering my nest” so to speak.
